
Tea Mountain and Bamboo Sea, a charming national AAAA scenic area, is located in Ji Mountains in the north of Yongchuan. It is about 55 kilometers away from Chongqing in the east, 50 kilometers from The Dazu Rock Carvings, 272 kilometers away from Chengdu in the west, and 72 kilometers away from Luzhou in the south. The scenic zone boasts an area of 31 km². The forest coverage rate is as high as 97% and the quality of atmospheric environment meets Class-1 standard of China. The average annual temperate is around 15℃, with about seven days of snowfall annually. With its favorable climate, it is not only a National Forest Park, but also an ideal Natural Oxygen Bar and Urban Garden, like a splendid pearl along the international golden travel line: Three Gorges of the Yangtze River-the city of Chongqing-Dazu Rock Carvings. Layers of tea trees from the 13,320,000 square meters of tea gardens and 33,300,000 square meters of bamboos make the sea of bamboos. The Mountain and Bamboo Sea is unique in the world.
Tea Muntain and Bomboo Sea was named Ji Mountains by Zhu Geliang, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Shuin the period of the Three Kingdoms. Ji Mountains is famous for its seclusion. Called Canglongdao Mountains (Black Dragon Road Mountain) in ancient times, it was renowned as ’Four Sceneries of the Kingdom of Shu’ together with Mountain E’mei, Mountain Qingcheng and Jiuzhai Valley. As the mountains go up and down, they were deemed as an incarnation of Eastern black dragon. Zhu Geliang who is good at astronomical phenomena gave the name Ji Mountains. When Zhu Geliang stopped by Ji Mountains and had tea with the abbot of Tiantai Temple (now named Baoji Temple), he talked about the meandering terrain of Ji Mountains and said ”to be a man of honor, one needs to be tranquil to cultivate his behavior; to be frugal to develop his virtues; to be indifferent to fame and wealth to manifest his aspiration and to be serene to reach the ultimate aim. This is a good place for self-cultivation. Ji Mountains then got the name ”the best mountains for recluses”. These mountains are also an ideal place for politicians and literates.
Here when you climb the Tea Mountain you can also appreciate thousands of acres of bamboos. Here are dense bamboos, green tea leaves, thick forests and grass. In spring, new buds sprout from tea trees, new bamboo shoots break through the soil and flowers spread over the mountain; in summer, breeze sweeps across bamboo groves, clear springs jingle in the mountains and layers of green blankets cover the mountain; in autumn, the silver moonlight shines onto yellow bamboos and tea trees with white flowers; in winter, red leaves, together with green bamboo covered by snow, dance in the snow-capped mountains. Here, surrounded by mountains and valleys, the largest tea garden in Asia is a magnificent picture. When you climb the tea mountain, taste the tea you feel yourself detached from the secular world and completely relaxed. Intoxicated by the scent of the tea, you would feel yourself in heaven.
Thin Knife Ridge, 1025 meters high, is the highest peak in the west of Chongqing. Golden Basin Lake Holiday Inn is built in accordance with the standard of the five-star resort hotel. China Tea Art House is the largest holiday hotel featured the theme of tea culture in southwest China. There is also the National Agricultural Tourism Demonstration Site--Tea Technology Tourism and Demonstration Base of ”Yongchuan Exquisite Buds (Yongchuan Xiuya)“. A lot of Party and state leaders have visited this place, including Zhu De, Wen Jiabao, He Guoqiang, etc. This is the only exterior shot place of the movie House of Flying Daggers in China. In addition, it is the Training Base of the International Chess Team of China and Innovation Base of the Chinese Artists Association. The biennial China Chongqing (Yongchuan) International Tea Culture Tourism Festival has been held for 8 times and enjoys a high reputation in the international tea fields.
Tea Mountain and Bamboo Sea successfully passed the acceptance check of the National Tourism Scenic Area Quality Grade Evaluation Committee on November 1, 2012 and was formally approved as a national AAAA Scenic Area by the National Tourism Administration on January 29, 2013.
